Hydromet Security
“Hydromet” is an umbrella-like concept, much more than just an abbreviation of “hydrometeorology.” It has taken on a life of its own by representing not only water and weather, but the interrelationship of climate, water and weather-related atmospheric phenomena but their societal and ecological consequences as well. The term hydromet is absent from the official glossaries of the US AMS (American Meteorological Society the UNDRR – UN Office of Disaster Risk Reduction) and most dictionaries as a stand- alone concept. Like other clipped words that eventually became standard English (eg., lab for laboratory, demo for demonstration), hydromet is well on its way to standing as a word in its own right.
